Laryngoscopes
Spencer laryngoscopes are high quality reliable devices. Made using extraordinary techniques, they distinguish themselves for their exceptional durability. All the handles and blades are manufactured using the highest quality materials, which have been subjected to the most rigorous of controls. The Spencer range includes the most commonly used laryngoscopes
with exclusive tungsten bulbs or with halogen bulbs for fibre-optic.
Fibre-optic
The light is generated by a bulb positioned on the head of the handle and is directed
onto the point of the blade through a fibreoptic nucleus. The use of a halogen bulb
which generates increased illumination while keeping the heat generated by the lamp
away from the patients mouth âcold lightâ. The nucleus is made up of hundreds of tiny
glass fibres that transmit with precision, the light from the lamp to the point of the blade,
without the loss of any luminosity.
Conventional light
A conventional light laryngoscope is characterized by the lamp positioned on the
blade. Energy for the lamp is supplied by an electric circuit within the handle, that is activated when the handle and the blade are in contact.

Designed by R. Macintosh in 1941, it's the most popular blade for the intubation of adult patients in normal conditions. The blade's curved shape allows sliding of the tip in the vallecula position and the wide flange helps keeping the tongue a side during intubation.

S-blade
Miller blade
Developed by Doctor R. Miller from S. Antonio, Texas, it's the most popular straight
blade. It is used specially in paediatric situations, because the wide bend of the blades'
tip allows lifting of the epiglottis, that is bigger in a child than in an adult patient. The
straight design permits a better view of the larynx, which is of great help in case of problematic intubation.
